A-1 Studio: Figure/Figure

This project began as an analysis of spatial boundaries found within a bundle of branches. Thin strips of manila folder were cut and used to highlight three separate spaces. The more intricate the implied space the more corners and manila pieces were used in framing its’ form.

The following phase of this project was to use basswood sticks to first, “hold” the Plaster model and second, reflect the form of the model itself. The first iteration was created by extending, replicating, and offsetting the lines found on the plaster model. The second iteration was created by extending, replicating, and “flipping” the planes found on the plaster model. The third iteration was created by reflecting the angles found on the plaster model at complementary or supplementary angles. This process created a volumetric inverse of the plaster model.
